The Soo — where Lake Superior meets the St. Marys River, between two countries
What to know before you book
Sault Ste. Marie ('the Soo') straddles the international border with Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan — connected by the International Bridge over the St. Marys River. The Canadian locks (Sault Canal National Historic Site) allow ships to bypass St. Marys Rapids between Lake Huron and Lake Superior.
The Agawa Canyon Tour Train is the Soo's most famous attraction — a full-day wilderness train journey through Algoma Country's dramatic canyon, especially spectacular during fall foliage (September–October). Art Gallery of Algoma and Station Mall are the other main downtown draws.
